Clucky’s was Chung Hua Middle School Kuala Belait’s entrepreneurial project in the annual Bigstart Competition which was organised by the Department of Co-Curriculum Education, Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) and Radio Television Brunei.
With a business team of eight creative and determined members, Clucky’s sold healthy, homemade chicken popcorn in various original tantalising flavours to our school teachers and students.
Sticking to this year’s theme, ‘Local Agriculture: Maximising Potential Through Innovation’, Clucky’s vision was to promote a healthy lifestyle of eating processed food to the public while spreading the importance of local agriculture and diversifying Brunei’s economy towards achieving National Vision 2035.
Throughout the project which lasted from August to mid-October, Clucky’s was able to satisfy its customers’ taste buds and was a huge success in school as well as in public events such as the KBKu Ceria and the Teacher’s Day celebration at the International Convention Centre.
The team donated 10 per cent of the profit to local charities – Smarter Brunei and National Orphans Fund. Clucky’s ended up earning the championship title on November 19, 2019, receiving a cash price of BND400.
The students hope that more young entrepreneurs like themselves could also play a part in helping to diversify Brunei’s economic activities.
