The Fire and Rescue Department (FRD) was alerted at 1.12pm yesterday, about a car blaze on a stretch of the Lumut Bypass.
Led by Acting DSO Md Helmi bin Abdullah, nine personnel from the Sungai Liang and SPARK fire stations put out the flames in five minutes, using one hose jet.
The driver managed to escape unhurt, but the vehicle was completely gutted by the fire.
The cause of the blaze is still under investigation, but it is believed to have resulted from a fuel tank that ruptured and caused the gasoline to ignite after the vehicle struck the lamp-post.
Following the incident, the FRD has issued an advisory for drivers to bring along dry powder fire extinguishers and to make sure that their vehicles are in good condition, in addition to having all modifications performed by qualified mechanics.
