Calligraphy contest winners receive prizes

A prize presentation ceremony was held yesterday, for the Calligraphy Art Competition organised by the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (Yayasan) Art Research and Islamic Calligraphy Centre.

The prizes were presented by Permanent Secretary (Planning, Land Use and Environment) at the Ministry of Development Dr Nor Imtihan binti Haji Abdul Razak, in her capacity as the Acting Managing Director of Yayasan.

Held in September 2019, to coincide with the 27th anniversary of Yayasan, the month-long competition featured 17 entries in the Open category and 47 in the Contemporary Canvas category.

The Open category was won by Muhammad Nazir bin Haji Othman, who received a cash prize of BND2,000.

In second place was Alomsa Noradzmin bin Haji Ali Omar, who won a cash prize of BND1,500, while Muhammad Riziman bin Haji Usin won the third prize of BND1,000.

Meanwhile, Nurul Mumtazah binti Alisam took first place in the Contemporary Canvas category, along with a cash prize of BND1,500.

The second prize of BND1,200 went to Muhammad Riziman bin Haji Usin, while Haji Zamady bin Haji Mohammad claimed the third prize of BND900.

The Yayasan Art Research and Islamic Calligraphy Centre is active in holding workshops for Islamic calligraphy and arts. The centre also offers copywriting services for Surah Yaasiin, Takhtim and Doa, as well as calligraphic inscriptions of verses from Al-Quran.
