People from all walks of life in this country should devote themselves to reading Al-Quran and giving it prominence in all aspects of their daily lives and activities, said His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam in a titah during the prize presentation ceremony of Finals of the National Al-Quran Reading Competition for Adults 1441 Hijrah/2020.

“Aside from reading Al-Quran, comprehending the verses should also take precedence. It is because of this that we made the arrangements for the compilation of the Mushaf Brunei Darussalam and its interpretation, which is currently in progress,” said His Majesty.

“In the field of Al-Quran studies, I would like all educational institutions to give this serious attention, particularly religious education institutions. It is unconscionable to regard it as insignificant and lessen the learning periods for Al-Quran, compared to other subjects.

“In the case of religious teachers’ institutions, it is irrational to reduce the Al-Quran periods, since as future religious officers or teachers, they are required to be proficient and master all aspects of Al-Quran.

“I hope that this matter will be given the attention that it deserves,” said His Majesty.

In concluding the titah, His Majesty extended his appreciation to the participants of the competition, saying, “Winning or losing is not the main objective, but the sincerity in expecting blessings from Allah the Almighty.”
