BruONZ Summer Games 2020, hosted by Brunei Student Society in Melbourne (BSSMELB), officially began with an opening ceremony at Golden Bowling at The Airport Mall last Wednesday.
Australian High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam Nicola Rosenblum was the guest of honour.
The opening ceremony began with the recitation of Doa Selamat followed by the handing over of roles by BruONZ representative from Bruneians Around Sydney Society (BASS) to BSSMELB.
President of BruONZ Naqiiyah binti Haji Ahmad Morshidi thanked guests for their support and expressed condolences for the bushfire situation in Australia.
Meanwhile, Nicola Rosenblum congratulated the students’ decision in making Australia their study destination and hoped students will benefit from the experience.
She also wished safe travel to the students and hopes that BruONZ participants will enjoy the sporting events. The ceremony concluded with group photo sessions with the guest of honour.
The BruONZ Summer Games 2020 is held from January 8-18 with five sport categories – bowling, badminton, netball, futsal and dodgeball. The event is participated by the current and alumni of Bruneian students in Australia and New Zealand.
BruONZ serves as a platform for students to share experiences and encourage solidarity. It is also as an opportunity for students to experience leading and conducting events during their studies while also exercising sportsmanship between the players.
