Brunei to experience rains until January end

Brunei Darussalam is still in the first half of the Northeast Monsoon in which wind is blowing dominantly from the northeast and the country would normally receive a high amount of rainfall, the Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department (BDMD) stated in a release.

The weather condition is expected to be rainy on most days up until the end of January.

No tropical storm system is currently observed in the region.

During continuous and heavy rain, BDMD advised the public to take note of the risk of flooding or flash floods especially in low-lying and flood prone areas. The risk of landslides will also be high especially when heavy rainfall occurs continuously for more than two hours. There is also a risk of severe flooding during the event of very heavy rain coinciding with high tide.

Conditions are especially dangerous to small craft and sea recreational activities and sports in the case of strong winds and rough seas.

Members of the public, road users and fishermen are advised to keep updated with the latest weather forecast and warnings issued by BDMD, and to take precautions and actions to ensure safety.

BDMD also reminded the public not to disseminate unverified weather information through social media as this may cause unnecessary panic and restlessness.

BDMD will continue to monitor the weather conditions and will issue weather advisory or warnings if necessary.

BDMD advised the public to keep updated with the latest weather information by visiting their website at www.met.gov.bn or follow their Facebook (Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department), Instagram (@bruneiweather) and Brunei WX mobile application.
