Brunei, China foster tourism ties

A Tourism Promotion event and Business Matching session between travel and hospitality agencies from Brunei Darussalam and the People’s Republic of China was held at the Setia Pahlawan Hall of the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (MPRT) yesterday.

Organised by the Tourism Development Department of the MPRT and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China, the event marked the first engagement between the two countries on the platform of Brunei-China Year of Tourism 2020.

The guests of honour were Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ali bin Haji Apong, and the Vice Minister of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China Zhang Xu. Also in attendance were Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Brunei Darussalam Yu Hong, Permanent Secretary at the MPRT Pengiran Haji Kamalrudzaman bin Pengiran Haji Mohd Ishak and the Deputy Permanent Secretary (Tourism) at the MPRT Wardi bin Haji Mohammad Ali, as well as other senior officials and tourism stakeholders.

The Deputy Permanent Secretary delivered a welcoming speech which highlighted several collaborative events between Brunei Darussalam and the People’s Republic of China to commemorate this special year.

The event also saw a welcoming speech delivered by the Vice Minister of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China. Thirty tourism officials and representatives from the People’s Republic of China came to Brunei Darussalam to strengthen relationships between travel agents and tour operators in order to boost tourist arrivals.

The delegation also had the opportunity to go on a city tour to Bandar Seri Begawan in the morning as part of their introduction to the places of interest in Brunei Darussalam.
