TelBru recently donated BND5,000 for the ‘Back To School’ programme organised by the Brunei Council on Social Welfare (MKM).
Media Communications Officer of TelBru Siti Hajar binti Haji Mohd Mahathir handed over the cheque to MKM Head of Children Section Zubaidah binti Dato Abu Zar.
TelBru had been contributing to MKM’s Back To School programme for the last three years as part of its corporate social responsibility.
“We have been conducting our Back To School Programme for our clients since MKM was first formed in 2009 and are very thankful to organisations like Telbru who support our programme,” said Zubaidah.
“We have been receiving public donations since last November for this year’s programme. We are happy that we are able to assist 120 needy students with BND250 each this year.”
MKM does not give vouchers or cash to the students. Instead an MKM member will bring the students to purchase what they need.
“Our experience has shown that giving vouchers and cash can be abused, where the students or their families will buy goods not connected to school needs.”
Only students not assisted by other organisations or provided insufficient assistance will be given assistance by MKM.
The school items bought for the students by MKM include books, stationeries, school uniforms, sports uniforms, sport shoes and in some cases, part of the money will also be used to defray the students’ school transportation costs.
MKM fully relies on donations from the public to run its charitable programmes and can be reached at their helpline at 7146680.
