The newborn girl found abandoned at an electric sub-station on New Year’s day has died from complications, the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) said.

Yesterday afternoon, the RBPF’s Women and Children Abuse Investigation Unit held a funeral service for the infant, with the assistance of the Imam at the Kampong Pulaie Mosque. She was laid to rest at the Kampong Pulaie Muslim Cemetery.

Weighing only 680 grammes when she was found lying in a box at an electric sub-station on the Muara-Tutong Highway, the infant was immediately placed in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit of the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital.

After battling complications for nearly a month, she passed away at 3.50pm yesterday.

Anyone with information can contact the Women and Children Abuse Investigation Unit at 2459500 ext 496, or the police hotline 993, or go directly to the nearest police station.
