73 RBAF officer cadets earn commissions

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam consented to grace the Sovereign’s Parade Ceremony for the Royal Brunei Armed Forces’ (RBAF) 18th intake of officer cadets at the Parade Square of the Defence Academy RBAF in Kampong Tanah Jambu yesterday.

The parade marked the completion of a year’s intensive training for 73 officer cadets comprising 54 males and 19 females. Thirty-nine were commissioned as Royal Brunei Land Force officers, 21 as Royal Brunei Navy officers and the remaining 13 as Royal Brunei Air Force officers.

His Majesty was greeted on arrival by Minister of Defence II Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof and Commander of the RBAF Major General Pengiran Dato Paduka Seri Aminan bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud.

Accompanying His Majesty was His Royal Highness 920 Captain (U) Prince ‘Abdul Mateen.

His Majesty consented to receive the royal salute and inspected the guard of honour parade commanded by 1085 Captain Abdul Qahhar bin Haji Abdul Mulok. The ceremony proceeded with a march-past by the officer cadets.

After delivering a titah, His Majesty conferred awards to officer cadets who demonstrated exceptional performance in various fields throughout the course.

Receiving the Sword of Honour award was 53240 Officer Cadet (U) Wan Muhammad Hijazi bin Haji Yussof, who holds a Bachelor’s Degree of Engineering (Hons) in Aerospace Engineering from University of the West of England, Bristol, United Kingdom.

The Best Academic Award went to 53242 Officer Cadet (U) Muhammad Ghazali bin Haji Suhaili.

The Best Military Skills Award was granted to 53205 Officer Cadet Awangku Waffauddin bin Pengiran Ismail.

The Best in Physical Training Award was presented to 53249 Officer Cadet Mohammad Zulfitri bin Haji Zoferi.

The ceremony continued with three chants of Daulat Kebawah Duli Tuan Patik by the participants of the guard of honour parade. It was followed by a Doa read by the Head of RBAF Religious Department (JAMA’AT) Commander Haji Ainolnizam bin Haji Ibrahim of the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN).

The event continued with a get-together ceremony from the newly commissioned officer cadets with their families led by two Professionally Qualified Officers who completed the three-month training at the Officer Cadet School (OCS) on May 3, 2019.

His Majesty also received a pesambah from the newly commissioned officer cadets with the theme, Tatwir Ar-raes which means ‘Development of a Leader’. The event then concluded with a group photo session.

The Sovereign’s Parade is the culmination of the RBAF OCS’ prestigious intensive military training towards equipping newly commissioned officers with knowledge, faith, discipline, professionalism and leadership skills.

The 52-week Officer Cadet Training Course for the 18th intake began on January 29, 2019 which involved several exercises and military activities dedicated to improving the quality of leadership, character and intellect as required for every RBAF officer.
