Religious schools across Brunei Darussalam yesterday welcomed 5,705 preschool students – 2,743 girls and 2,962 boys – for the morning and afternoon sessions in the new academic year.
At Lumapas Religious School (SU Lumapas), the registration ceremony for the new preschool students was observed by Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman.
Also present was Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) Dato Seri Setia Haji Abdul Aziz bin Orang Kaya Maharaja Lela Haji Yussof.
The MoRA delegates were welcomed by Headmaster of SU Lumapas Muhammad Khairuddin bin Haji Kamis, who took them on a tour of the school to observe the students in their respective classrooms.
A total of 63 students 29 girls and 34 boys – have registered at SU Lumapas.
Mohamad Bajuri, who accompanied his son Mohamad Iman Yuseof Hakimi on his first day at Pengiran Anak Puteri Majeedah Nuurul Bolkiah Religious School (SU PAPMNB) in Kilanas, said that a religious school is the best platform for children to learn about Al-Quran, obligatory prayers and other aspects of Islam.
“At religious school, they will have more opportunities to learn and understand more about the Islamic knowledge from their teachers,” he said. “Other than that, they will also be able to learn the Jawi script and Arabic.”
Orientation sessions were also held yesterday, during which the children’s parents and guardians were briefed on the school academics and administrative matters such as attendance, the Compulsory Religious Education Order of 2012 and school uniforms.
