Some 21 senior citizens of the Senior Citizens Activity Centre (PKWE) in Tutong District completed the Digital Skills Training Programme on Wednesday.
The three-day programme was organised by the Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI).
The guest of honour, Legislative Council member Yang Berhormat Haji Ramli bin Haji Lahit as Penghulu of Mukim Telisai and Acting Penghulu of Mukim Ukong Tutong District presented the certificates.
It was conducted with cooperation from the government and the private sector with presentations and practical demonstrations by trainers and facilitators including the Department of Curriculum Development, Ministry of Education; IT Protective Security Services Sdn Bhd (ITPSS), as well as representatives from local e-Commerce companies including Naindah.com, Rotuku.com and Weelago.com.
The programme aimed to assist the elderly to become digital savvy.
It covered various topics including basic ICT skills, online safety and security, introduction to e-Commerce and its opportunities, useful mobile applications, online shopping as well as online transactions. The programme was first introduced in October 2019 at the PKWE in Brunei-Muara District.
Over 80 senior citizens have participated. Future programmes will also be conducted at PKWE in Belait and Temburong districts.
