Vikings win sixth straight Bandar Ultimate Open title

Vikings rewrote the record books once again after they bagged their sixth successive title at the 10th Bandar Ultimate Open (BUO) 2019 at the Jerudong Sports Complex in Kampung Jerudong recently.

Hosted by the Brunei Adventure Recreation Association (BARA) Ultimate in conjunction with their 20th anniversary, the event attracted 269 participants from 12 teams including two visiting teams from Malaysia.

The annual meet drew players from Miri, Bintulu, Kuching, Labuan and Kuala Lumpur.

Kuala Belait-based Vikings, who were announced as the Upper Pool champions, edged YOLO from Bintulu 13-12. Troopers were the second runner-up in the Upper Pool. Meanwhile, Skyfall won the Lower Pool with UIA and Disc.connect taking in second and third place.

Deputy Permanent Secretary (Youth and Sports) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Colonel (Rtd) Pengiran Haji Maiddin bin Pengiran Haji Said presented the prizes.

UIA were also awarded with the Spirit of the Game award where all participating teams rated the teams they went against based on their sportsmanship.

BARA President Yasmin Patera mentioned that having these tournaments will allow local teams to build new friendships and networks among the international Ultimate community, as well as gain exposure and experience to further their teams along in their Ultimate journey.
