Former members of Derma Bakti Hadrah Group from Kuala Beliat (1965-70) gathered for a reunion at Rimba Garden Central recently.

Now in their 60s, most had not met since going their separate ways in the late 70s. The Derma Bakti Hadrah Group was initiated by the late Haji Deli bin Metassim from Kampong Kuala Balai, Belait District in the late 1950’s.

Chairman of the reunion Haji Razali bin Haji Omar Ali said the late Haji Deli learnt to play the hadrah from the late Abang Ali bin Abdullah, originally from Kuching, Sarawak and was working at British Malayan Petroleum Co Ltd (BMP) in the late 1930’s.

“It was like old times all over again. We felt like long-lost friends meeting up. It was good to see so many of former hadrah students,” said the chairman.

Son of the late Abang Ali, Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Murad and spouse, Datin Hajah Zuriah binti Haji Ibrahim were present as the guests of honour.

The former members also performed. The event also saw a mass recitation of Zikir and Rawi followed by Doa Selamat.
