‘School of Paris and the Current European Artists’ art exhibition is held at Radisson Hotel until December 10.
The guest of honour, Acting Director of Tourism Development Haji Zulzalani bin Haji Osman officiated the opening ceremony yesterday.
President of Alliance Francaise de Brunei Darussalam Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Laila Diraja Dato Seri Setia Haji Hazair bin Haji Abdullah, Francesco Balsamo of Archivio Generale Vincenzo Balsamo, son of the late Maestro Vincenzo Balsamo, and Valerio Ballotta of GBK Malta also attended.
Founder of Atelier Huifong Ng Hui Fong said, “School of Paris refers to the rising wave of non-French modernist artists who came to Paris in the early 20th Century to live and work there, seeking inspiration and sharing ideas and cultures with each other at the artistic melting pot. Among the well-known artists representing School of Paris was Amedeo Modigliani. We have the opportunity to witness 12 fine works of Modigliani thanks to the artist’s family in Paris. Valerio Ballotta has made it possible for Modigliani’s works to be exhibited first time in Asia.
“We are also grateful to witness other fine artworks by Jeanne Hébuterne, Giorgio Morandi, Giacomo Balla, Rene Gilles, Jules Pascin and Vincenzo Balsamo.”
The event, held in conjunction with Brunei December Festival 2019, aims to provide an opportunity for Bruneians and tourists to witness the works from France and Italy.
“It is our biggest aim to promote Brunei Darussalam as an international art and cultural hub that caters to art enthusiasts and tourists worldwide and we are taking steps towards realising this ambition,” she added.
The art exhibition is supported by the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism as well as the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.
