Taleban ambush leaves 12 dead in North Afghanistan

KUNDUZ, Afghanistan (Xinhua) – Taleban fighters’ ambush on a convoy of army in Afghanistan’s northern Kunduz province left 12 people dead, including four Afghan soldiers yesterday, an army spokesman in the restive province said.

The militants, according to spokesman Abdul Khalil Khalili, ambushed the convoy of national army in Bagh-e-Miri area yesterday morning, killing four soldiers on the spot and wounding six others. Eight Taleban insurgents were also killed when the security forces returned fire on the attacking militants forcing them to flee, the spokesman added.

He said a clean-up operation has been launched to ensure security in the area.
