International School Brunei (ISB) Kuala Belait (KB) hosted its first Music Extravaganza at the Cenderawasih Ballroom, Brunei Shell Recreation Club (BSRC) recently.
The event showcased the talents and capabilities of pupils ranging from pre-kindy (as young as two years) to Year 6 through an array of colourful performances.
Over 150 people comprising parents and family members attended the event. The musical ensemble also included solo performances on the piano, drums, guitar and violin.
The ensemble came together for a grand finale, singing ABBA’s Thank You for the Music, receiving a standing ovation from the audience.
Head of ISB KB School Yynda Thomas said, “Not only were the children absolutely superb, they were also brave for standing on the stage for the first time ever. They performed amazingly in front of their parents, who were impressed with the children’s talents.” The pupils have been practising since September. The school’s curriculum was enhanced with weekly specialist music lessons and after school one-on-one private music lessons from Rhythmic Arts Sdn Bhd. They learnt how to read music, band etiquette and discipline.
The musical also helped develop and teach perseverance, self-discipline, and confidence.
This was the first musical experience for the children at ISB KB. The school will relocate its campus to Seria in 2020. Work and preparations to bring the current site to operational readiness have commenced. The refurbished school is expected to be ready sometime by the school’s second term in 2020.
