Members of the public can donate to the Pengiran Muda Mahkota Al-Muhtadee Billah Fund for Orphans (DANA) to help ease the burden of orphans and their families by sending a Short Message Service (SMS), following the launch of the SMS Brunei Prihatin for DANA 2019-2020.
The launching ceremony at the Bridex Hall 2 of Jerudong was officiated by Minister of Defence II Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof in his capacity as Chairman of the DANA Board of Trustees.
The project SMS Brunei Prihatin for DANA is one of the efforts to provide a means for the public to channel their donation to orphans in the country.
SMS Brunei Prihatin for DANA will run for 184 days from December 12 to June 12, 2020, with DST and Progresif Cellular Sdn Bhd providing the SMS service.
SMS donations can be made in the denominations of BND1, BND5, BND10, BND15, BND20, BND50 and BND100. Each SMS sent will not incur any service charge by both telecommunications companies.
DST and Progresif subscribers who wish to donate can type the words DANA (no spacing), followed by the donation denomination, and send it to 38111. (Eg DANA5 for a BND5 donation).
Permanent Secretary (Planning, Land Use and Environment) at the Ministry of Development cum Acting DANA CEO Dr Nor Imtihan binti Haji Abdul Razak said, “The SMS Brunei Prihatin for DANA project has been around since 2006. This is its 14th year. “
Similar with previous years, the Secretariat of DANA is carrying out the project with cooperation from government agencies and the private sector, including Radio Television Brunei (RTB), DST and Progresif.
Additionally, a number of government agencies are also helping spread the information. They include the Mosque Affairs Department (through Friday sermons) and the Information Department (through Pelita Brunei). Cinemas are also airing the SMS Brunei Prihatin for DANA promotion without charges.
The SMS Brunei Prihatin for DANA 2018-2019 collected BND56,116.
