Research papers presented at 12th KAIB

Keynote papers entitled ‘Unveiling the Potential of Baitulmal’, ‘Coordination between the management of the Zakat organisation at East Kalimantan’ and ‘Kebitaraan of Education in Brunei Darussalam’ were presented at the 12th Borneo International Islamic Conference (KAIB) yesterday.

The three keynote panellists were Manager of Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak Datu Abang Mohd Shibli bin Abang Mohd Nailie; Head of Badan Amil Zakat Nasional (Baznas) of East Kalimantan in Samarinda Dr Kh Fachrul Ghazi, MA; Ra’es of Religious Teachers University College of Seri Begawan (KUPU SB) Dr Haji Adanan bin Haji Basar, and moderated by Dr Haji Noralizam bin Haji Aliakhbar.

The presentation entitled ‘Unveiling the Potential of Baitulmal’ by Datu Abang Mohd Shibli said that the main function of a Baitulmal is to be backed up for the development and sustainability of Muslims especially in today’s globalised era.

Some of the basic criteria for establishing Baitulmal were leadership (support for implementation of Baitulmal operations), long-term planning which is formation of pragmatic strategic planning (looking at the capabilities and potential of Baitulmal to develop as a competitive Islamic treasury). Also included are customer (creating community confidence including quality delivery system, generally accepted internal control systems and shared values ​​and engaging society through social media),  labour (applying the concept of Ta’aruf or knowing), Tafahum (understanding) and Tafakul (protecting) the inner and work ethic of each employee so that they work with understanding and are always ready), Operation (three types of charity fund is a fund formed to defend the Ummah through aid, fund to equip the community and fund to build the community).

Dr Kh Fachrul Ghazi’s talk entitled ‘Coordination between the Management of the Zakat organisation at East Kalimantan’ explained that to achieve a peaceful life, one must have knowledge.

“Having knowledge allows us to do everything that is commanded in Islam including the management of Zakat,” he said. He explained the importance of each Zakat organisation to cooperate in the management of Zakat affairs so that it can operate in accordance with Islamic teachings.

Dr Haji Adanan explained that Brunei Darussalam is a safe and peaceful nation and have people who are Bitara in many ways including aspects of worship and implementation of Islamic law.

He said that Islamic education covers all aspects including sociology, history, geography, mathematics and so on as it relates to the teachings of Al-Quran and hadith. Islamic education focusses on six aspects – spirituality, mental aspect of mind, physical aspect, moral, social and knowledge.

Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Bahrom bin Pengiran Haji Bahar and Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs Dato Seri Setia Haji Abdul Aziz bin Orang Kaya Maharaja Lela Haji Yussof were present.
