Remarkable development in Brunei’s TVET education

Around 28 participants from Indonesia are in the country to attend the Educational Partnership Workshop between Brunei Darussalam and Indonesia at SEAMEO Voctech Regional Centre, Brunei from December 10-13.

The workshop, organised by the Ministry of Education and Culture, Indonesia, aimed to get an insight of Brunei’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

Guest of honour Acting Director of Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE) Lim Kian Boon officiated.

Director of Politeknik Brunei Denis Ho Mun Tai and SEAMEO Voctech management and staff were also present.

Acting Director of SEAMEO Voctech Regional Centre, Brunei, Mohammand Iswandi bin Hamdi in his welcoming remarks said, “The objective of the workshop is in line with SEAMEO Voctech’s initiatives toward Industrial Revolution 4.0 era.

“We hope to be able to work together towards achieving better educational services thus improving our competitiveness in the areas of TVET education.”

The Educational Partnership Workshop, he added, “will be our benchmarking efforts into unifying the collaboration of TVET and vocational schools and institutions between Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam in the areas of students and teacher exchange programmes, promoting cultural awareness between the two countries and enhancing technical and pedagogical skills in the areas of technical teaching knowledge, technology, industries, agribusiness and others.”

Meanwhile, Coordinator of SEAMEO Indonesia Centre and Management of SEAMEO Voctech Regional Centre, Indonesia Dr Gatot Hari Priowirjanto said Brunei has developed remarkably in the areas of TVET education.

He hoped that the Educational Partnership Workshop between Brunei Darussalam and Indonesia will be held annually. He also hoped that the participants would make good use of this opportunity to learn and benefit from the programme.

During the three-day workshop, participants will visit Politeknik Brunei, IBTE as well as attend a briefing on student international attachment exchange programme, TVET Academy, and visit Royal Regalia Museum and other tourist destinations in the country.
