Brunei Darussalam’s basketball player Samuel Jong has established a sports agency company Pegasus Sports, the first of its kind in the country.
Samuel’s Pegasus Sports will take charge of players’ transfers, dealings, networking and management in the region.
Recently, Pegasus Sports has helped an American basketball player Maurice Shaw to find a move to Blackwater of the Philippines Basketball Association.
The six-foot-nine man has agreed to a three-year deal and has become the second top draft pick to be signed from the Rookie Class of 2019.
Samuel Jong has always been frequently involved in the imports of foreign players for teams in major local tournaments.
“It has been two years and I keep on expanding my network throughout Asia. I have sent players under my agency to countries in Southeast Asia, China as well as Qatar. “
The idea of setting a sport agency, he said, “is because of passion for the game of basketball. I saw many people doing the same business overseas and I asked myself why not in Brunei. I started off small and I slowly build up my business.”
He added, “At first some people were doubtful but as my business started to expand, people started to respect my decision as well as passion for basketball.”
“I am the only agent in this region who covers all Southeast Asian countries. I have nine import players under my agency playing in the Indonesian league. I am holding the record of sending most players to the league now.”
Samuel Jong said he hopes to set up an office in the Philippines and start recruiting more players. He also wishes to bring local basketball players to compete in leagues abroad in the future.
