The 3rd Brunei Film Blitz attracted a full-house crowd with the screening of three movies appreciating the Pakistani Cinema at Mahakarya Institute of the Arts Asia in Plaza Athirah, Batu Satu yesterday.
Present in show of support was the High Commissioner of Pakistan to Brunei Darussalam Major General (Rtd) Abdul Aziz Tariq.
He lauded the organisers for providing a platform to introduce Bruneian audience to the culture of Pakistan and also to bring the Pakistani community in Brunei Darussalam together for a “home-away-from-home” experience.
The high commissioner described the event as “entertainment with a sense of purpose” which not only educates the public but “enhance people-to-people connection”.
He added that the screening helps members of the audience to understand the differences in culture and allows them to be “a well- informed society”.
Three movies were screened, Na Band Ba Barati; military Navy movie, Laal; and action-flick Waar directed by acclaimed director, Bilal Lashari.
Meanwhile, Brunei Film Blitz’s Festival Director Siti Kamaluddin said, “Films are a good way of exposing cultures”, adding that the event has always aimed to promote growth of Bruneian films.
“We encourage aspiring filmmakers to find one’s own identity. In order for this to happen, they have to be exposed to all kinds of film form all around the world.”
Some 24 international films will be screened during the Brunei Film Blitz 2019 held on December 14 – 28 at Mahakarya Institute of the Arts Asia.
Apart from movie screening, a sharing session will also be held with producers, cinematographer and director from the selected films. Admission is free.
The 3rd Brunei Film Blitz is held in conjunction with the Brunei December Festival 2019.
