A masterclass from OSP hotshot Hung Ing Wai paved the way for a stunning 97-73 victory over Fitness Zone-Juramas in the final of the Tool Box Open Challenge Cup in the Low San Brunei Basketball Open at the Brunei Basketball Association Court last night.
The OSP star was in sizzling form with successive treys to put the game beyond reach in the fourth quarter.
OSP asserted authority at the start of the first quarter with a 15-6 lead but Fitness Zone gradually got back into the game.
Fitness Zone Juramas recovered from a nine-point deficit to overtake the lead after conjuring a 19-point run.
Edmond Tan lived up to the occasion in the final as he starred with two consecutive treys. Fitness Zone captain Lee Chee Choun made an extraordinary pass, stretching the play wide and troubling the OSP’s rear-guard.
Point guard Alvin Goh was pulling the strings, maintaining a cushion in the first half of the contest.
Nevertheless, OSP had a sniff on the tie as they clawed their way back to contention with a five-point deficit masterminded by a three-pointer by Choo Yung Jian.
OSP took the lead for the first time since the first quarter as Choo Yung Jian sunk his third successive three-pointer. The momentum swung on the other way as OSP built a five-point lead. Choo Yung Jian released a pass and Voon Yiew Ting outmuscled the FZ defence to open up a double-digit lead. Voon and Hung have contributed with treys as OSP turned the heat on their embattled opponents. The duo of Choo Yung Jian and Hung Ing Wai could not be stopped as a succession of three pointers helped establish an unassailable 12-point lead.
Meanwhile, TK Tea House claimed the Veteran Low San Shield title after they defeated Digimark 101-79 in the final.
Linktech clinched third place in the Tool Box Open Challenge Cup after they saw off Aewon Brunei 90-69. Systematic Living emerged winners of the Women’s Sherwin Williams Cup after they defeated SheHoops 57-45 in the final. SheHoops Jr settled for third place.
