MPT targets RM100M revenue in pursuing city status for Tawau

TAWAU (Bernama) – The Tawau Municipal Council (MPT) is targetting RM100 million in revenue collection by next year to enable the district to be accorded city status.

Its president Datuk Ir Amrullah Kamal said various measures were being drawn up to achieve this mission including imposing rates in the suburbs, starting next month towards a revenue collection of RM100 million, one of the criteria for Tawau to be recognised as a city.

He said the suburb areas involved would be four locations in the Apas state constituency.

Amrullah said MPT would also create a night market in Jalan Chester every night from Friday to Sunday.

He also noted that among the positive measures undertaken by MPT currently was relocation of the Sunday market from Takada to Sabindo, which could derive an income of up to RM40,000 per month compared to RM2,500 from its original site.
