His Majesty graces Islamic conference, Halal showcase

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam graced and officiated the 12th Borneo Islamic International Conference (KAIB) and the 2nd Borneo International Halal Showcase (BIHAS) at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Berakas, yesterday.

Accompanying His Majesty were His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office; and His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik.

Upon arrival, His Majesty was greeted by Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman as the Patron of the 12th KAIB Executive Committee; Minister of Rural Electric of Sarawak Datuk Dr Haji Abdul Rahman bin Haji Junaidi as the Minister-in-Charge of Sarawak’s Religious Affairs in his capacity as the member of the 12th KAIB Executive Committee; Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Bahrom bin Pengiran Haji Bahar; and Ra’es of Religious Teachers University College of Seri Begawan (KUPU SB) Dr Haji Adanan bin Haji Basar.

In a welcoming address, the Minister of Religious Affairs underlined that the conference is in the parameters of supporting and maintaining of peace and well-being.

“As Muslims and people of Borneo, we are committed to achieve in worldly life and hereafter as a catalyst for peace and harmony for the benefit of the citizens and residents of three countries in Borneo and thus contributing to the stability of these neighbouring countries namely, Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia and Indonesia,” he said.

The Minister of Religious Affairs added that the official launching of the conference shows the active participation of Brunei Darussalam and preserving the interest of the people.

The ceremony continued with the titah and the launching of the conference by His Majesty.

This was followed with a video clip presentation on the 12th KAIB, and continued with a premier lecture by State Mufti Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia (Dr) Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned on ‘Ilmu dan Amalan Penentu Kebitaraan Ummah’.

The ceremony was further enlivened with a mass recitation of Sayyidul Istighfar led by students of KUPU SB, and followed by the recitation of Doa Selamat by the State Mufti.

His Majesty, Their Royal Highnesses and members of the royal family toured the 2nd BIHAS exhibition.

With the theme Ilmu dan Amalan Penentu Kebitaraan Ummah, the 2nd KAIB aims to collect material or research works related in strengthening Ummah based on knowledge and practices that act as future references and platform to discuss Dakwah Islamiyah and other issues related with Islam in Borneo.

It is also hoped to collect manuscripts related with the archaeological manuscripts particularly in the Borneo Archipelago.

The two-day conference which ends today saw 12 sub-themes discussing issues related with Knowledge and Practice, Social Science and Politics, Education, Civilisation and Manuscript, Dakwah, Halal, Zakat and Waqaf, Pedagogy of Islamic Education, Co-Curriculum, Electronic Media, Sports, Leisure and other thoughts.

The 12th KAIB and 2nd BIHAS are co-organised by KUPU SB in collaboration with the Centre of Research and Borneo Islamic Development of the Universiti Teknologi Mara Sarawak.
