A mosque is an institution of worship in the development of the Muslim community. It serves as a community centre uniting all walks of life through religious knowledge and moral building, and is a centre of activity that contributes to the development of the Ummah. Therefore, it is important for the youth to contribute to mosque efforts.

Towards this end, Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) through the Welfare and Community Unit and the Student Representative Council (MPP) recently organised the ‘Minal Jami’ah Ilal’ Mosque (Love towards mosque) programme at Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mosque in Kampong Bolkiah.

The event served as a platform to build bonds between students and the community, and allowed them to be involved in mosque activities.

The programme was held in conjunction with the Day of Action 2019, in conjunction with International Volunteer Day 2019.

A total of 38 UNISSA students and 21 children and youth participated.

Activities included sprucing up the mosque and its surroundings, congregational prayers, leadership activities, Islamic events and performances, Amazing Race to test participants’ knowledge of prayer movements and recitations, ablution, history of Islam and other surahs and prayers.

A religious talk was presented by Assistant Lecturer at the Faculty of Arabic Language, UNISSA Dr Haji Ahmad Asri Lubis titled ‘Istighfar, Asset of Muslims,’ which emphasised the importance for youth to have strong values through the use of Istighfar in their daily life.
