The Lions Club of Belait has grown from strength to strength with great leadership and support from all members, Lions Club of Belait President Joseph Teo said.
Speaking at the club’s annual dinner gathering at Rooftop Cafe of V-Plaza Hotel, Kuala Belait in conjunction with the club’s 43rd anniversary, he said the Lions Club of Belait was charted on December 14, 1976 with help from the Lions Club of Bandar Seri Begawan.
“We grew from 22 members to 37 members. Our membership growth was not that great but we are made up of dedicated and quality members who are willing to serve.”
The gathering also saw the induction of new member to the club Phyllis Jong, who was sponsored by Keith Wong. She was inducted by Past District Governor Mary Law.
She reminded members to always lend a hand to aid the less fortunate.
“You are invited to join the Lions Club of Belait because we believe that you possess the spirit to uphold our club’s motto ‘We Serve’ and to always lend a helping hand to those in need,” she said.
The event saw the handing of certificate of appreciation as well as the Club Bannerettes to several project partners who aided the club in the recent Environment and Health Project at the Old Folks Home in Seria.
Among them were Chairperson of Belait District Scout Association (PPDB) Skip Mohd Hatta bin Haji Suhaili, President Aini Kho from the Sister Club, and Lions Club of Lambir Miri, as well as several Friends-of-Lions; Victor Chin, David Chan and John Chin for their contributions.
Meanwhile, Joseph Teo handed out the Club’s Bannerettes to guests to join in the celebration.
They included Past District Governor Mary Law, President John Ling from Lions Club of Miri Host, Past President Albert Ong from Lions Club of Miri Mandarin, President Angie Ng for Lions Club of KL Central, and member Marna Rosanna from Lions Club of Medan Deli.
The highlight was the cutting of the anniversary cake to celebrate the club’s 43rd anniversary.
