His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday emphasised the importance of knowledge and action in the empowerment of the Halal market.

His Majesty was delivering a titah during the launching of the 12th Borneo Islamic International Conference (KAIB) and 2nd Borneo International Halal Showcase (BIHAS) at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Berakas.

Referring to the theme of the conference, Ilmu dan Amalan Penentu Kebitaraan Ummah, His Majesty said that knowledge could not proceed without action, while action without any knowledge would invite harm.

“Thus, the importance of knowledge and action is equally determined. Both need to co-exist for perfection. Life would be unbalanced if one was absent, thus knowledgeable people should put their learning into action to achieve greatness,” said His Majesty.

The monarch also noted Borneo’s unique history in terms of culture, tradition, business and strong Islamic relations “which have always been strong and harmonious, in conformity with the spirit of sincere brotherhood, which is important to maintain in ensuring mutual safety and prosperity”.

“In relation to this, KAIB and BIHAS are both proof that good relations can be formed at any time with the blessings of Allah the Almighty, whether in the name of Islamic relations or in the name of nation, clan or tribe.”

With this, His Majesty stated, “We, as Muslims, are bound by the laws of Islam with respect to the specific consumption of items that are Halal, according to the interpretation of Islamic law. This is also the case in other matters, as Islamic law is our only guide.”
