A man was sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment and five strokes of the cane by the Magistrate’s Court on Monday, after he was found guilty of sexual exploitation and outraging the modesty of three boys under the age of 16.
Dayemo @ Abdul Aziz bin Haji Moktal had pleaded not guilty to committing the offences, which resulted in a hearing.
The prosecution, conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Sharon Yeo, called in seven witnesses to prove the case.
Senior Magistrate Lailatul Zubaidah binti Haji Mohd Hussain found that the prosecution had proven its case beyond the court’s reasonable doubt, on all the charges the defendant had committed in 2015.
The court also found that the defence’s case was one of denial, and rejected it. The defendant, amongst other things, pleaded for leniency and consideration.
However, the court was invoked to the aggravating factors of the case in which it was premeditated, having the position of trust as an adult and taking advantage of the vulnerability of the underage victims, as well as his blatant disregard in making the victims go through another ordeal of having to give evidence in court.
