Infant abandoned in front of house

A police investigation is underway, after a newborn infant was found naked and abandoned at the front door of a house.

The Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) said that the Sengkurong Police Station responded to a call received at 6am yesterday, from Jalan Pasai 1, Kampong Sengkurong, with reference to an abandoned child.

The baby boy, weighing 3.45kg, is in stable condition and is being cared for at the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital.

This is the second report of a newborn being abandoned this year.

The case has been referred for further investigation to the Women and Children Abuse Investigation Unit under the RBPF’s Criminal Investigation Department.

The Community Development Department (JAPEM) under the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports has also been informed, with regard to the infant’s welfare requirements.

The RBPF is appealing for public assistance to help with the investigation. Anyone with information is requested to contact the Women and Children Abuse Investigation Unit at 2459500 ext 496, or the police hotline at 993, or report at a nearby police station.
