Enforcement officers foil smuggling attempt

The Marine Police together with Royal Customs and Excise Department officers foiled an attempt to smuggle contrabands into the country recently.

Two men in a boat were apprehended during the joint operation in Brunei waters.

Metussin bin Rabahal, 51, and passenger Md Johaidin bin Haji Md Ariffin, 42, were found in possession of nine cartons of undeclared cigarettes. Following investigations by the Royal Customs and Excise Department, the boat driver who admitted to the offence, will be charged under Section 146 of the Excise Order 2006, while the passenger was released.
