Continuing to enhance and explore further cooperation

Thailand will continue to work closely with the Brunei government in enhancing existing cooperation and explore new strategic cooperation of mutual benefit.

Ambassador of Thailand to Brunei Darussalam Wanthanee Viputwongsakul shared this in a message on the occasion of the celebration of the birth anniversary of His Majesty the Late King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great, National Day of the Kingdom of Thailand and Thailand Father’s Day, which takes place today.

In the message, the ambassador said, “December 5 is a significant day for Thailand as it coincides with the birth anniversary of His Majesty the Late King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great, National Day of the Kingdom of Thailand and Thailand Father’s Day.

“The year 2019 is a blessed year for Thai people as we witnessed the Royal Coronation ceremony of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua or King Rama X on May 4 – 6, 2019. All Thais in the country and abroad joined hands in paying tribute and well wishes for His Majesty during the Royal Coronation.”

The ambassador shared that, after the General Election on March 24, 2019, the Royal Thai Government led by General Prayut Chan-o-Cha has continued to attach importance to major policies under the National Strategy Thailand 4.0 so as to enhance national competitiveness and promote sustainable growth.

She noted that the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), a special industrial zone with many new innovative technology industries such as e-commerce, biotechnology, nanotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence, and food innopolis is in progress to create a new technology hub in the region.

Thailand as the ASEAN Chairman hosted the ASEAN Summit in November under the theme ‘Advancing Partnership for Sustainability’ with successful outcomes to ensure the transformation of the ASEAN region into a people-oriented community that leaves no one behind and looks to the future.

“Thailand looks forward to supporting Brunei Darussalam when it takes over the Chairmanship of ASEAN in 2021,” said the ambassador.

“With respect to Thailand and Brunei Darussalam relations, it is also a special year for us to commemorate the 35th anniversary of Thailand-Brunei Darussalam diplomatic ties,” continued the ambassador. “The Royal Thai Embassy in Brunei Darussalam has organised various activities throughout the year to celebrate the occasion, such as badminton friendly match and coaching session, Thailand Grand Fair, publication of the Guidebook of Thai Restaurants in Brunei Darussalam and many more.

“Thailand will continue to work closely with the Brunei government in enhancing existing cooperation and explore new strategic cooperation of mutual benefit,” highlighted the ambassador.

“Together, we will further strengthen the bilateral mechanism, the Joint Commission on Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC) in the areas of our mutual interests such as food and agricultural sector through the MoU on Agricultural Cooperation, health sector, cultural cooperation and OTOP products.

“People-to-people relation is also another important element of our relationship which is vital to achieve closer cooperation, stronger connectivity as well as boosting trade and investment activities. In moving forward, Thailand highly values the close relationship with Brunei Darussalam and seeks to further deepen our friendship and cooperation in the years to come,” added the ambassador.
