Conference discusses development in Arabic Language teaching

The Religious Teachers University College of Seri Begawan (KUPU SB), Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) and Rabitah Antarabangsa Alumni Al-Azhar Brunei organised a National Arabic Language Conference, at Tarbiyah Hall of KUPU SB yesterday.

Acting Deputy Ra’es of KUPU SB Dr Abang Haji Hadzmin bin Abang Haji Taha said there are national issues to be discussed with relevant agencies to contribute knowledge and thoughts towards the development of the language of Al-Quran.

The event saw presentations, discussions and planning that focussed on the vision, mission and goals as well as planning of each department, division and schools in developing Arabic Language in the country involving the Language Centre of KUPU SB, Faculty of Arabic Language of UNISSA, Curriculum Development Department at the Ministry of Education, Islamic Studies Department, MUBn Learning and Growth, Tarbiyyah Global and Naderen.

The conference also saw the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Faculty of Arabic Language of UNISSA and Language Centre of KUPU SB.

Signing on behalf of UNISSA was Dean of Faculty of Arabic Language Associate Professor Dr Siti Sara binti Haji Ahmad while signing on behalf of KUPU SB was Dr Abang Haji Hadzmin.

The event also saw a forum on Bahasa Arab di Brunei, Kitani Hayati facilitated by three panels namely Director of International and Public Relation Centre of UNISSA Haji Sammali bin Haji Adam, and Post-Graduate students of KUPU SB Haji Zulkifli bin Haji Md Salleh and Muhammad Adi Adham bin Ramlan.

The forum discussed the stages of learning Arabic Language. Haji Sammali said in the beginner level, Arabic Language was thought through conversation and memorisation of basic Arabic words while plural, grammar and others were thought during the advance level.

The conference also acted as a platform to strengthen cooperation among agencies in Brunei Darussalam in developing quality Arabic Language teaching.

It is hoped to achieve its mission by sharing teaching information on Arabic Language among institutions in the country, identify on collaborative area in the teaching of Arabic and planning on various inter-institutional collaborations.
