The Batang Duri (final) Edition of the Brunei Bird Race Series (BBRS) 2019 was flagged off yesterday morning in a ceremony officiated by Acting Temburong District Officer Abdul Ghani bin Haji Othman at the Sumbiling Eco Village in Temburong District.
The BBRS 2019 is a series of four bird race competitions to capture the highest number of different bird species photographs within the identified locations. The first race edition was held in Bandar Seri Begawan on April 14, while the second edition was in Tutong District at the Tasek Merimbun Heritage Park last August and third edition was held in Labi at the Tropical Biodiversity Centre.
The registration for the Batang Duri edition of the BBRS 2019 was opened three weeks ago via the brunei.events online registration. Each participant receives an e-certificate of participation, an official BBRS 2019 T-shirt, Bird Watching in Brunei Guidebook 2016 edition published by the Tourism Development Department, and a goodie bag.
Birding along the Batang Duri Road promises a good selection of forest birds such as the helmeted hornbills. It is hoped that the final Bird Race for the year will add on the database of bird species recorded for the past three races which so far has catalogued 118 species with a few Bornean endemic species such as the Bornean Bristlehead, Dusky Munia and Bornean Brown Barbet.
BBRS 2019 is organised by the Tourism Development Department of the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (MPRT) with the support of government agencies, strategic partners from the private sector, community members of the nearby village consultative councils and local non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
The fourth and final bird race of the BBRS 2019 has been listed as one of the Brunei December Festival 2019 organised by the MPRT.
Also present during the event were Penghulu of Mukim Amo and Bokok, village heads, representatives from strategic partner agencies, local community village council heads and members from private sectors and NGOs members.
