Awards, prizes for top students

Menglait Secondary School held its annual Best Student Awards 2019 at the school’s Melati Hall recently.

Principal Osman bin Rajap was the guest of honour that presented the awards to the 162 outstanding students.

Chairperson of the school’s Parent-Teacher Association, deputy principals, counsellors, teachers as well as parents and guardians of the students were also present.

The ceremony began with the mass recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat led by Md Nuzul Asmadi bin Haji Abdullah followed by the recitation of verses of Al-Quran by Muhd Syazani bin Mohd Rosman and its interpretation was read by Awangku Mohd Aminur Iqbal bin Pengiran Haji Mohd Amirul Amin.

Deputy Principal (Academic) Dayangku Nurul Aminatun Farida binti Pengiran Haji Md Ali gave a speech in which she pointed out that the academic journey is challenging hence students need to work hard and have will power to equip themselves with quality knowledge and skills.

A video presentation on the school’s activities throughout 2019 was played.

Certificates and prizes were presented to top students from Years 7-10 and 11H, top students in every subject, best student in co-curriculum activities and best students in Pre-Vocational Programme 2019.

Also awarded were students with 100 per cent attendance, young leaders involved in the Miftaahul Barakah programme, students with most borrowing of library books and best students in the Miftahun Najaah scheme.

The ceremony concluded with the recitation of Surah An-Nas by Dayangku Siti Nur Amal Shahirah binti Pengiran Mohd Saiful.

Meanwhile, the Brunei Malay Teachers Association (PGGMB) Sungai Akar School held its an award presentation and convocation ceremony at the school’s main hall in Kampong Sungai Akar yesterday.

Deputy President of PGGMB Haji Badar bin Haji Ali was the guest of honour who also gave away certificates and prizes to 85 recipients comprising Kindergarten 3 graduates, outstanding students from Years 1-6, and top students in Primary School Assessment (PSR) examination.

The ceremony began with an academic procession of Kindergarten 3 pupils to the hall followed by the singing of the national anthem, PGGMB song Semangat Guru and recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and prayer led by Muzaffar Ukasyah bin Azman.

Principal of the Sungai Akar School Haji Zulkifli bin Haji Ladis in a speech outlined the academic performance of the school. He revealed that PGGMB Sungai Akar School achieved a 100 per cent pass in the PSR examination for three years running from 2016.

He added that the school was among the top four of non-government schools in the country with the highest percentage of students getting grades A to C in the 2017 and 2018 PSR examinations.

The principal also outlined long-term academic programmes for the school that reflect the Brunei Vision 2035.

Attended by administrative members of the association, teachers and parents, the programme concluded with stage performances by students.

Elsewhere, Sayyidina Husain Secondary School celebrated its outstanding students with a prize presentation ceremony yesterday.

Principal Dayangku Hajah Nooramaliatifah binti Pengiran Haji Ahmad was the guest of honour. In her welcoming address, the principal congratulated the students for their hard work and hoped that they would continue to strive for excellence.

Ninety-six awards were presented. These included awards for the top three students of each class, overall best in each level and students with 100 per cent attendance.
