As part of its mission to inculcate a culture of safe driving practices among the public of all ages, Brunei the Darussalam National Road Safety Council (MKKJR) and Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd (BSP) organised several activities geared towards enhancing road safety and to commemorate World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims at the launch of the Brunei December Festival 2019 in the capital yesterday.

One of the many activities lined-up to mark the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims that was launched yesterday was “road safety games”, an initiative under the BSP Traffic Games that focussed especially on schoolchildren, one of the council’s target groups. Other activities planned by the MKKJR to mark the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic victims include a special forum, video-making competition, blood donations, pledge campaign, charity run and religious activities.

The World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims takes place on the third Sunday in November every year as the appropriate acknowledgment of victims of road traffic crashes and their families.

It is also an opportunity to highlight the role of many stakeholders such as medical and emergency services, rescuers, private sector, researchers and academics and also the community in handling the impact of traffic accidents.

The commemoration this year carries the theme ‘Life is not a car part’.
