The Brunei Council on Social Welfare (MKM) will organise a fundraising concert called ‘MKM Live’ on January 4, 2020 at the Jerudong Park Amphitheatre.

Most of the proceeds will fund the repair of an 80-year-old’s house in Kampong Madang while MKM will use the rest for other projects helping the needy in Brunei.

The house is over 50-years-old and is heavily termite-infested and unsafe. The old lady and her family have no money for the extensive repairs and pray that no harm will come to them until work is done.

For several years, MKM provided her and her family monthly with food, while also providing food during Ramadhan.

MKM’s President Mohd Yusof bin Shaikh Abdul Halim said, “We have held fundraising concerts for many years to help the needy in Brunei. This year, we decided the fundraising concert will focus on helping to repair the house and make it safe.”

Fakhrul Razi, an exceptional local singer and entertainer will perform at the concert.

He has had many international engagements including in London, New York, India and Indonesia.

Also set to feature is a well-known local comedian pair Najib Ja’afari and Kevin Cheong – better known as BruHaHa – who will keep the audience in stitches while Zed Peace, a local with over 10 years of experience, together with Aznniel Yunus are also supporting the concert.

JYZ trio is also making a comeback after a five year hiatus.

Maria Grace Koh, better known as Eia, is one of Brunei’s leading vocal/stage coaches and she will display her talent while Maya, an 18-year-old student who was talent spotted to be trained by an internationally acclaimed opera vocal coach in the United Kingdom, will render two opera songs.

“Our concert this year is totally organised by our Youth Wing. We urge the public to buy concert tickets. Have a good time while spending for a good cause,” said the MKM President.

Donations and sponsorship of building materials to repair the house are also welcomed.

MKM was registered in December 2009 as a Charitable Society under the Societies Act of Brunei Darussalam.

The organisation’s main objective is poverty eradication and to render assistance to needy residents of Brunei.

These include: directing and assisting eligible families to get welfare assistance provided by the government; giving temporary assistance to eligible families who are waiting for government welfare; assisting needy students in the schooling finances; providing basic necessities to deserving families on a monthly basis; and running programmes empowering the needy to break the poverty cycle.

Assistance is also rendered to those who find themselves in temporary difficulties such as the death of a breadwinner or where the breadwinner runs foul with the law and is imprisoned, fire victims and victims of natural disasters.

While their work is concentrated in Brunei, assistance is also extended to the needy in Limbang, Miri, Surabaya and Bangladesh.

MKM is wholly self-funded and gets donations from its own members and the public. Regular fund-raising projects are organised, including charity dinners, charity runs and general outreach to the public for donations.
