The Pengiran Muda Mahkota Al-Muhtadee Billah Fund for Orphans (DANA) held a presentation ceremony in the Tutong District yesterday, during which 522 orphans received coupons to purchase school supplies in the new academic year.
The event was held at the Tutong District Community Hall Complex, where the recipients each received a coupon worth BND450 from Acting Minister of Education Datin Seri Paduka Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh, in her capacity as a member of the Board of Directors of Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah.
The coupons were also distributed to the recipients by Assistant Managing Director of Yayasan Musthapa bin Haji Matahir.
Coupons worth a total of BND234,900 were donated by DANA to the orphans of Tutong District.
The coupons are valid at 25 shops selling school supplies in all four districts, as well as retail outlets providing daily essentials for the orphans who have yet to attend school.
One of the recipients, Nurizzah Amirah binti Haji Saiful Nairul Azme, 16, said, “I wish to convey my gratitude to DANA for the assistance I’ve been receiving since I was 11. This has inspired me to work even harder to achieve my dream of becoming a teacher or lawyer, in giving back towards society.”
Nurfarah binti Karia, the mother of nine-year-old Mohammad Akmal Fadmi bin Abdul Rahman, also expressed her gratitude to DANA, “I am happy about this contribution, which has helped to lessen our burdens.”
Meanwhile, 406 orphans in the Belait District also received coupons from DANA yesterday. The total worth of coupons donated by DANA for the two districts is BND182,700.
During a ceremony, held on December 10 in the Temburong District, 161 orphans received coupons to purchase school items and daily necessities. The total value of coupons donated by DANA for the orphans of the district is BND72,450.
On December 12, 2,516 orphans in the Brunei-Muara District received BND1,132,200 worth of coupons. Overall, 3,605 orphans in all four districts received coupons worth BND1,622,250 from DANA.
