13 litterbugs fined BND100 each

Thirteen foreign nationals were issued with compound fine of BND100 by personnel of the Law Enforcement Unit of Bandar Seri Begawan (BSB) Municipal Department for violation of the Minor Offences Act Section 12(1) (A) Chapter 30 of disposing rubbish and cigarette butts in public places in Bandar Seri Begawan.

The offenders nabbed littering by the enforcement officers are Mia Mohammad Shohagh, Md Younus, Masud Rana Abdul Aziz, Moynal Hoque and Abbas Molla from Bangladesh; Dadang Aripin, Imam Safii, Taufiqi, Muhamad Aris Mubarok, Tri Sutrisno, Tarjono and Ajis Nukhi from Indonesia; and Thein Tun Aye from Myanmar.

The offenders need to settle the compound fine within seven days at the third floor of the BSB Municipal Department. Failure to do so, the case will be brought to the court and would bring a fine of BND1,000, or a month’s imprisonment, for the first convicted offence.

For subsequent offences, the penalty is a fine of BND3,000 and a prison term of up to three months.

Members of the public and companies are also reminded not to dump rubbish in private areas that is only intended to concerned parties.
