The Brunei Darussalam Regatta Team dubbed ‘Juang’ won first place in the International Open (20 crews) and third place in the International Open (12 crews) categories of the Sarawak International Dragon Boat Race 2019.
The team also came second and fourth in the Mixed International (12 crews).
The team brought home a cash prize of RM12,000 with medals and trophies.
The race was held from October 26-27 at the Kuching Waterfront in Sarawak. Sarawak Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari bin Tun Abang Openg was the guest of honour.
The race was joined by 56 local and overseas regatta teams such as Australia, Brunei, China, the United States (US), Thailand, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Myanmar, the Philippines, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia.
President of the Brunei National Regatta Association (PERKEBAR) Haji Haris bin Haji Ibrahim said he was proud and grateful for the success and that praise should be given to the team for bringing the country to the fore. It is also an inspiration for other teams to promote regatta.
‘Juang’ is one of PERKEBAR’s teams; it has participated in numerous domestic and foreign competitions and has achieved great success.
The Sarawak International Dragon Boat Race 2019 organised by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Sarawak is an iconic water sports event in Sarawak organised in collaboration with the International Dragon Boat Federation (IDBF).
The race is part of the Sarawak Regatta-Kuching Waterfront Festival 2019 held from October 25 to November 3.
The Sarawak Regatta’s highlight will be the Sarawak River King 2019 event scheduled to be held on Sunday and will be witnessed by the Yang di-Pertua of Sarawak Tun Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud.
