Embedded under the Malaysian Battalion 850-6, 29 personnel of Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) completed a 13-month deployment under the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) and returned home on November 10.
A ceremony to welcome the RBAF personnel was held at the Multi-Purpose Hall, Bolkiah Garrison yesterday morning.
Major Daud bin Etim led the contingent. In an interview with the Bulletin, the Contingent Commander for RBAF said, “We had been conducting the peacekeeping operation with the Malaysian Battalion 850-6. We started our deployment on September 2018 and we finished our mission by November 2019. We carried out our UNIFIL mandate which is to monitor the situation in Lebanon and to provide assistance to the civilian population.
“We gained invaluable experience working together with other countries involved in the UNIFIL mission as well as carrying out our area of responsibilities which is a huge task.”
Major Daud conveyed his appreciation to the Government of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam for giving the opportunity to participate in the UNIFIL mission.
RBAF Joint Force Commander Brigadier General (U) Dato Seri Pahlawan Mohd Sharif bin Dato Paduka Haji Ibrahim was the guest of honour at the event.
The event started with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat followed by a detachment of badges and photo session.
Brunei Darussalam has been a part of the UNIFIL since 2008.
