The meetings under the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM) continued this month with the convening of the ADMM Retreat and three separate defence ministers’ informal meetings with the People’s Republic of China, Japan and the United States (US).
Minister of Defence II Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof represented Brunei at the ADMM Retreat as well as the defence ministers’ informal meetings in Bangkok, Thailand.
Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand General Prawit Wongsuwan, chaired the ADMM Retreat on behalf of Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Kingdom of Thailand General Prayut Chan-o-cha. General Prawit Wongsuwan also co-chaired the defence ministers’ informal meetings with the defence ministers of China, Japan and the US.
At the side-lines of the meetings Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi made bilateral calls on the newly appointed Minister of Defence of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto as well as Minister of Defence of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam General Ngo Xuan Lich.
Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Defence (MinDef) Brigadier General (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Shahril Anwar bin Haji Ma’awiah and Director of Defence Policy Haji Adi Ihram bin Dato Paduka Haji Mahmud were part of the Brunei delegation.
