MEMI renamed as Ministry of Energy

By command of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, His Majesty has consented to the restructuring and renaming of the Ministry of Energy, Manpower and Industry (MEMI) to Ministry of Energy, to allow the ministry to focus on energy matters, according to a press release yesterday.

Following the restructuring, the industry portfolio will be transferred to the Ministry of Finance and Economy (MoFE), and the Manpower and Employment Council (MPEC) will be established under the Prime Minister’s Office to replace the Manpower Council (MPC).

Two senior officials from MEMI are also transferred to other ministries following the restructuring – Permanent Secretary (Industry) at the MEMI Pengiran Haji Mohd Hasnan bin Pengiran Haji Ali Hassan is transferred as Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS), while Deputy Permanent Secretary (Corporate and Industry) at the MEMI is transferred as Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (MPRT).

All the changes will take effect today.
