A local man was sentenced to 20 months’ imprisonment by the Intermediate Court yesterday, after he pleaded guilty to committing house-trespass for theft.

Haji Hazmei bin Haji Hussin, 48, trespassed into a commercial property in the industrial area of Jalan Setia Diraja, Kuala Belait, on March 19, at the encouragement of a friend, who worked at the company.

Prosecutor Hajah ‘Adzimah Mukarramah binti Haji Salleh further informed Judge Muhammed Faisal bin Pehin Datu Juragan Laila Diraja (Rtd) Colonel Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Kefli that the defendant made away with a safe deposit box with BND1,600 cash and a desktop computer unit without the monitor.

The theft came to light when a company employee, sensing that something was amiss, checked CCTV footage, which captured the defendant in action with another company’s employee.

A police report was lodged, which led to the arrests of the defendant and the other company employee.
