The Ministry of Health through its Health Promotion Centre has implemented a Healthy Dining Programme to improve Brunei’s food environment by increasing the availability of healthier food options.

Head of Health Promotion Centre of the Ministry of Health Dr Hajah Norhayati binti Haji Md Kassim was present at the launch of the programme at Fratini’s Restaurant yesterday.

Senior officers and officers of the Ministry of Health and guests were also present.

The programme aims to create a local market environment conducive for supporting healthier eating choices and foster the culture and practice of healthier food choices among restaurant owners, managers and customers.

The participating food outlet has to comply with the guidelines provided by the Health Promotion Centre prior to the launch of the programme. It is also encouraged to provide customers with healthier food options in moderate portion size, serve dishes using healthier cooking method, cater to customers requesting for less salt, less sugar or less oil menu.

Food or drinks that are considered as healthier option will be labelled with a Healthier Choice Logo on the menu. Several benefits are offered to the participating food outlets such as support and assistance in producing a healthier option menu and becoming one of the Healthier Choice partners.

It is hoped that more food outlets will participate in the Healthy Dining Programme and become partners in supporting and promoting healthy eating initiatives in Brunei Darussalam.
