Company helps make Brunei greener

Hengyi Industries Sdn Bhd conducted its second sapling planting efforts yesterday.

The initiative was the company’s commitment to protect Brunei’s environment towards a sustainable future.

One thousand saplings comprising five different species namely including Kapur Paji, Kapur Bukit, Selangan Batu Daun Tebal, Meranti Merah Kesumba and Tulong were planted.

Some 60 attendees together with Hengyi Industries staff; representatives and officials from the Ministry of Energy, Manpower and Industry (MEMI); Damai Holdings Limited and the Forestry Department; and volunteers from Green Brunei and Rotary Club participated.

The saplings were planted across one hectare of land area at the Berakas Forest Reserve.

Hengyi Industries launched the reforestation project at Berakas Forest Reserve on May 1. The company pledged to plant saplings over 200 hectares as part of the joint efforts to support Brunei’s commitments under the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), the Paris Agreement and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) through the Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation Programme (REDD+).
