Burger King off to good start in Low San Shield

Burger King basketball team were off to a flying start in the Veteran Low San Shield after cruising to a 90-77 win against Menglait MBA team during the first game of the Low San Brunei Basketball Championship at the Brunei Basketball Association (BBA) Court last night.

Edwin Sanchez had a huge night for Burger King with 22 points while his teammate Romulo Mandapat and Ervin Malit scored 12 and 13 points. Menglait MBA’s Rizaldy Umandap had 22 points in the loss.

Meanwhile, TK Tea House team defeated DHJ A-Amas 103-97 in the second game.

During the opening ceremony, Legislative Council member Yang Berhormat Ong Tiong Oh and Managing Director of Low San Hardware Mathew Boyd presented a sponsorship of BND10,000 to the BBA for organising the championship. Representatives from Kingston Beverage and Creamery Sdn Bhd also presented their sponsorship in the form of Revive as the official drink of the championship.

Chairman of BBA Kwang Ming Heng, Secretary General Lim Fung and Chairman of the Organising Committee and Vice Chairman of BBA Tan Chu Eu received the sponsorships.

Mathew Boyd said, “With a total of 25 teams participating in all three categories, I can see that the sport of basketball is loved by all ages, young and old, and of different nationalities.

“Since 1968, the Brunei Basketball Association promotes basketball as a national sport. It also helps in promoting a healthy, active and harmonious society in Brunei Darussalam.”

He said that Low San Hardware has grown with the basketball community and equally cares about its well-being. By sponsoring the annual Low San Brunei Open, it is hoped that the championship will continue to fuel the building of a healthy society.

BT and KL will take on Aewon in the Group C match of the Open category at 7.15pm tonight, while the second game will see Veteran United go against Digimark.
