Winners Singapore bound for ASEAN Skills Competition

The School of Hospitality and Tourism of the Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE) Sultan Saiful Rijal Campus held the National Skills Competition 2019 at the ASEAN Kitchen.

Nur Nadiatul Athriah binti Rosman of the School of Hospitality and Tourism, IBTE Sultan Saiful Rijal Campus won the first place in the competition. Mawaddatuw Warahmah binti Abdullah, who is also from the School of Hospitality and Tourism, IBTE Sultan Saiful Rijal Campus, won second place. Third and fourth places went to Muhammad Syamim Hakeemi bin Zulhilme and Abdul Wafi bin Yura Mawardi from the Youth Development Centre.

The first and second winners will participate in the ASEAN Skills Competition in Singapore next year.

Head of School of Hospitality and Tourism Kamarul Izzudin bin Haji Kamaluddin presented the certificates.

Chief Judge Hajah Rohana binti Haji Hamdan said the competition was based on hygiene, safety, preparation, production, food tasting and presentation.

Each contestant was tasked to prepare a three-course meal – soup, main course and dessert, which were judged by experts from the food and beverages industry – Rijal bin Othman from The Rizqun International Hotel; Zamrul Hafizi bin Mohammad Ismail from the Mulia Hotel; Mohd Shahril bin Abu Rahim from the Royal Brunei Catering; Samuel Sak from the Brunei Hotel; Nur Juliana Lo binti Abdullah and Mumtazah binti Haji Omarali from the IBTE Sultan Saiful Rijal Campus; and Nur’aeidah binti Haji Kamis and Norhani binti Haji Sawal from the Youth Development Centre.
