Traditional games highlighted in Run and Sports Fiesta

Minister of Education Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sulaiman officiated the Run and Sports Fiesta organised by the Ministry of Education and held in conjunction with the Teacher’s Day 2019 celebration yesterday.

Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Bahrom bin Pengiran Haji Bahar and Deputy Minister of Education Datin Seri Paduka Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh were also in attendance.

The run that flagged off and ended at the Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar Ali Saifuddien in the capital saw more than 3,400 participants comprising officers and staff from the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Religious Affairs as well as members of the public.

Following the run, the minister launched the Sports Fiesta featuring traditional children’s games.

It introduced traditional games played in the olden days to school students. It was also a way to get the students involved in the Teacher’s Day activities. The games were divided into Open Male category for Years 1-6 students who competed in Main Musang dan Ayam, Main Lompat Getah, Main Gelang Getah and Main Tinting while the Female Open category for Years 1-6 students competed in the Simban, Lompat Getah, Main Gelang Getah and Main Tinting.

For the Male/Female Open category for Pre-School students the games were Main Kaki Tiga dengan Bola Kertas, Main Gelang Getah, Menyambung Gelang Getah and Main Tilu Tilan Gulimang Bangkung.

Also conducted at the fiesta was Knowledge Trace open to teachers and students.

Fourteen teams participated in the games where they had to find the checkpoints using the clues and had to complete tasks and answer questions related to Islamic history.

Team Intisar of Sufri Bolkiah Secondary School won first place followed by Pahlawan Team from Sengkurong Sixth Form Centre and Khalifah Team also from Sengkurong Sixth Form Centre. The prizes were given away by the minister.
