Sultan graces Indonesian President’s inauguration ceremony

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam attended the Official Inauguration Ceremony of the 8th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo.

His Majesty also attended a courtesy call to Joko Widodo and a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister of Australia Scott Morrison.

Accompanying His Majesty was His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen.

His Majesty first attended the Official Inauguration Ceremony of the President of the Republic of Indonesia.

Upon arrival at Majelis Permusyawaratan Rakyat/Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat Building, His Majesty was greeted by Chairman of Majelis Permusyawaratan Rakyat Bambang Soesatyo.

His Majesty, other head of states and governments as well as guests, then proceeded to the Sidang Paripurna for the Official Inauguration Ceremony of the 8th President of the Republic of Indonesia.

His Majesty then consented to witness the Swearing-In Ceremony of Joko Widodo as the 8th President of the Republic of Indonesia, followed by the swearing-in of Ma’ruf Amin as Indonesia’s Vice President.

The ceremony continued with the signing of the letters of appointment of the President and Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, and the inaugural address by the President.

His Majesty, other head of states and governments as well as guests, then proceeded to the centre stage to congratulate President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo and wife; Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia Ma’ruf Amin and spouse; as well as former Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia Jusuf Kalla and spouse.

In conjunction with the Official Inauguration Ceremony of the 8th President of the Republic of Indonesia, His Majesty consented to send a congratulatory message to Joko Widodo, in which His Majesty, Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha binti Al-Marhum Pengiran Pemancha Pengiran Anak Haji Mohamed Alam, the Government and the people of Brunei Darussalam congratulated the appointment of Joko Widodo as the 8th President of the Republic of Indonesia yesterday. His Majesty expressed his satisfaction for the opportunity to able to celebrate and witness such a meaningful and historic event.

His Majesty also believed that with the experience and wisdom of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, its people will continue to develop and enjoy the prosperity and stability.

His Majesty believed that under the able leadership of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, the friendship and close cooperation between Brunei Darussalam and the Republic of Indonesia would continue to be sustained and strengthened in the interest and benefit of the people of both countries. His Majesty also attended a courtesy call to the President of the Republic of Indonesia yesterday morning.

The arrival of His Majesty at the Istana Merdeka, Jakarta was welcomed by Joko Widodo and wife, Hajah Iriana Widodo.

His Majesty later joined the President of the Republic of Indonesia and wife for a photograph session before signing Istana Merdeka’s guest book.

His Majesty and the President of the Republic of Indonesia then proceeded to the Meeting Room for the courtesy call.

During the session, His Majesty and Joko Widodo discussed bilateral issues and cooperation between Brunei Darussalam and the Republic of Indonesia, exchanged views and mutual concerns on regional and international matters.

His Majesty also attended a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister of Australia Scott Morrison at Grand Hyatt Hotel, Jakarta.

During the session, His Majesty and the Prime Minister of Australia discussed bilateral issues and cooperation between Brunei Darussalam and Australia, exchanged views and mutual concerns on ASEAN, regional and international matters.

Scott Morrison is the 30th Prime Minister of Australia and was sworn in as the Prime Minister of Australia on August 24, 2018.
